Empowering students with containerization technology through workshops and showcases.
On September 11, 2025, the ACM Chapter of VIT Chennai successfully hosted an insightful workshop titled "Dive into Docker." The event, aimed at equipping students with practical knowledge of containerization technology, was held in room AB3 404 from 9:50 AM to 10:40 AM.
The workshop was well-attended by enthusiastic students eager to learn about one of the most transformative technologies in modern software development. The session began with an introduction to Docker, explaining its core concept of building, shipping, and running applications anywhere.
Participants were taught how to create and manage their own Docker images, a key skill for ensuring consistent application environments across different systems. A particularly relevant topic was the containerization of back-end applications, which demonstrated how Docker can streamline the deployment process for real-world projects.
Demonstrations of Docker and its applications
The "Docker Showdown" event was organised by ACM – VIT Chennai, in association with the Office of Student Welfare. It was conducted on 5th November 2025, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, at the AB1 Conference Room. The primary aim of the programme was to introduce students to containerization technology using Docker and to provide a platform for showcasing innovative projects.
The event began with an introductory workshop in which participants learned how to containerize and deploy applications efficiently using Docker. Essential concepts related to Docker usage and deployment were explained in a practical and beginner-friendly manner.
After the workshop, a project showcase was conducted where over 60 student projects based on Docker technology were demonstrated. This wide participation allowed students to explore various innovative ideas and understand multiple real-world applications of containerization.
In addition to learning and demonstrations, the session provided an excellent networking opportunity for developers and technology enthusiasts. Students interacted with peers, discussed technical ideas, and exchanged knowledge related to software deployment and DevOps practices.
The event was coordinated by Dr. T. Subbulakshmi (Faculty Coordinator), while the student coordinators included Jyoshika, Ayushi, and Swati. Overall, the programme was highly informative, interactive, and beneficial for students interested in DevOps and modern application deployment technologies.
