VITCC ACM Student Chapter

Computer Science is no more about computers than astronomy is about telescopes.

Edsger W. Dijkstra

ACM brings together computing educators, researchers, and professionals to inspire dialogue, share resources, and address the field’s challenges. As the world’s largest computing society, ACM strengthens the profession’s collective voice through strong leadership, promotion of the highest standards, and recognition of technical excellence. ACM supports the professional growth of its members by providing opportunities for life‐long learning, career development, and professional networking.

Founded at the dawn of the computer age, ACM’s reach extends to every part of the globe, with more than half of its nearly 100,000 members residing outside the U.S. Its growing membership has led to Councils in Europe, India, and China, fostering networking opportunities that strengthen ties within and across countries and technical communities. Their actions enhance ACM’s ability to raise awareness of computing’s important technical, educational, and social issues around the world.

Workshops

Workshops offer an opportunity to develop new professional relationships, meet new friends, gain knowledge and become more successful in your career. Networking Opportunities, building new relationships and meeting new contacts is important to personal and business growth. ACM conducts workshops frequently, inviting industry professionals to talk about new trends and hands on workshops for juniors.

Competitions and Hackathons

Participating in a hackathon as a student will allow you to meet and learn from other, more experienced programmers. This will be a great boost to yourself as a programmer and an invaluable experience that you can take with you to your next job.
This chapter organizes many hackathons or hour of code contests frequently, allowing students to interact with seniors, guides and pushes you to develop your applications faster.

Community

Involvement in clubs demonstrates a student’s ability to manage his or her schedule with academics and social activities. Students also develop skills specific to their career path and imperative for future job success. Students have opportunities to improve their leadership and interpersonal skills while also increasing their self-confidence. This chapter aims to create a forum and guide students, better their skills and work as a team.
